Listen: The Gesture Music Player App Reviews

Must Have

Apples "music player" turned into trash once they added apple music. Thank god this app exists.

THANK YOU !!!

After the “upgrade” to Apple Music I almost gave up on trying to listen to music in my car. It’s far too complicated, and that’s just downright dangerous. This app is so simple too use. You can actually control what’s playing at a glance.

Joy to use

Simple to get started with yet good underlying controls when you need them. Beautiful interface is a joy to use. Escape from iTunes now. For playing your music, just go to Listen.

iPhone 6s

It is very difficult to change songs. I have to swipe 10-20 times to get the song to change.

Great App

UI and App is so fluid. Keep up the good work!

Nearly perfect

Nearly perfect for listening when in the car, massive improvement over Apples native app. Why just nearly? A few key issues for me that prevent it from being perfect in my view: - Gestures for skipping songs vs scrolling through a song should be reversed (i.e. Flick to skip a song hold and move left or right to go scrub forwards and backwards) - Should have the option to pull up an album or track list when the phone is mounted horizontally - Even when vertical, the album list should be collapsed just to view by album, then click to view tracks - fonts could be a bit bolder, bigger and brighter

Best alternative for music Ive found

The design is very well made and I love the colours for the albums that dont have cover art. Nice warm tone. My only problem is that there needs to be an alphabet scroll (like the one in the standard music app) so that it would be much easier to navigate. Also make it easier to swipe and change the time in the song (useful when it comes to longer songs).

Not what I was looking for

To start off, the swiping seems a little too hard. I literally have to swipe across the entire screen to change a song. The point was for me to swipe with minimal effort, not the opposite. Then, I have to press play EVERY time I switch a song, which is incredibly annoying. Only 2 filters, albums and artists. What happened to the songs filter? The one where you actually get to see ALL your music, not just within albums and artists. I would love to see a customizable filter where you could choose what you would like to use. The UI seems nice, but again I simply cant view all my music without browsing through albums or artists. Sometimes I like to mix up my entire library, I suppose I could go back to the stock app, but whats the point of this app then?

Easy and functional

After looking at many players trying to find a replacement for the Apple Music app, I found Listen. No more struggling trying to find my music or some function to play it, now I just Listen.

Amazing but needs little improvements

This app was what I was searching for, for so long! It gives a nice look to the otherwise bland music library, adding in the gestures as another feature that is really intuitive and the functionally is naturally executed! Besides that maybe the introduction of a songs tab or maybe even downloaded themes or customizable overall colors would be a great addition!

Great music player but needs improvements

This is my go-to music player! Ive tried dozens of different player apps and none come close to what this app provides. I mainly use t when Im driving but lately Ive been using it at work since the play/skip/volume buttons are so much easier to access than the Apples music player. Now I have a few recommendations for improvements. 1. If a song isnt currently playing when you load the app, the screen should default to the Albums/Artists/Playlists selection screen. 2. The selection screen currently only available in portrait mode. It should also be available in landscape mode. 3. The settings screen should also be accessible in landscape mode.

Love it even more

Smart gestures and good UI feedback make this a winner. Landscape view has just gotten an overhaul to include functionality previously only available in portrait. Navigating nearly 800 synced albums does get a bit tedious, so it would be nice if the idle “Tap to Listen” state offered a few options or was somehow customizable. But this is an otherwise excellent music player, and my current favorite.

Simplicity amazes

The app is a lifesaver while u are on the road. The latest update brought absolutely fantastic feature: access to online radio right from that simple and unique interface. I wish there were more app like this, solving huge pains in simple and intuitive way.

Usually love the app

But the last update has made this typically bug free app quite buggy on my 6s+ The sliding feature is less responsive now (often requiring multiple taps) and when starting up the app often itll say its playing, but the Music app and system tray show nothing happening in music. I frequently have to go to the music app, start music there and switch back to listen. Not a big deal until the other bug starts kicking in. Together they make things quite frustrating. Ive used this app for years, but its almost unusable lately. So sad :(

What Happened?

This was once an amazing app; my go to audio player. Not sure what happened but the current version is completely unusable. Crashes/freezes almost every time I try to use it. If the developers can resolve these issues I would once again consider it a 5 star app.

Pointless

Not as simplistic as it looks , nor as intuitive as it needs to be. Swiping may be good for the 20 yr old shown in the video to promote this. But a straight forward simplistic just play app would have been better - why wont any developer just creat one?

It was great

While listening to a song, swiping down to the left, would open the album of the song you were listening to. Which was perfect. But now it goes to the playlist. Not a fan of that change. Also the "artist, playlist, and radio" toggles at the top, are a little inconvenient while in the car. Which is the whole reason I got the app. For the gesture controls. The app is still pretty good. But I wish they didnt make those changes

Last Version Was Better

I downloaded this app because of the unique, clean and very simple driver friendly interface but with the last update they added album background images like all the the apps. And the default screen became albums ... used to be playlist ... and shuffle playlist doesnt work. Had to go back to iTunes.

WAS an intuitive basic music player

Here we go again. Another perfectly useful and efficient app completely destroyed by unnecessary UI upgrades and "features." This was my go to app for playing music which it excelled at -- almost perfectly. Id gladly pay for the previous iterations and I gave it a 5 star rating in the past. MacPaw has destroyed it ironically by doing exactly what Apple has done which is forget about basic usability. Now we have a submenu for album and artist since one of than main buttons at the top has been replaced by a radio option I neither want or need. Please go back to your original concept of simplicity, ease and safety. If I have to engage Siri to turn up the brightness and fumble around with a screen it just defeats the whole purpose of having it. Also shuffle now seems to be default instead of an option which is yet again another step to turn off for each album. Im all for mixing it up but let that be initiated by me. Seriously MacPaw...fix this!

Recent update broke the app

I just upgraded to the version from March 2016 and now the app just freezes up when I start it. A reboot of my iPhone 6 does not help. This is extremely frustrating. Previously, this was a simple and reliable app that did exactly what I wanted it to do: play my music without any superfluous features or interface. Now, the app completely fails at reliability. I do not know if the new features and user interface also fail at simplicity — I cannot get the app to work long enough to test out the new features. This update has been both surprising and disappointing; surprising because Listen has always worked so well and disappointing because I bought Listen precisely because I wanted an app that just worked without any frills or extras. I hope MacPaw gets this fixed ASAP.
